The total cost of this effort is approximately US$3.1 million (£1.83 million). The following organizations generously provided financial support for the project:

The History of Medicine Programme at the Wellcome Trust provided the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine with a major grant to initiate this project. The grant enabled the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine to acquire the complete collection of documents from the Guildford Depository, and to mount a large portion of the documents on the public Web site.

The Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute (FAMRI) provided a major grant to the Library & Center for Knowledge Management, UCSF to create the documents database and public Web site and to process a large portion of the Guildford documents.

Health Canada contributed funding to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine to acquire and process a portion of the documents at the Guildford Depository.

Cancer Research UK provided a grant to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine to acquire the documents related to BAT deposited at the Minnesota Depository.

Drs. Glantz, Hurt, and Lee are the recipients of research grants from the National Cancer Institute, which has also provided support for efforts to enhance researchers' access to tobacco industry documents.

A Rockefeller Foundation research grant awarded to Dr. Lee for research into tobacco industry documents helped fund document acquisition.

The American Heart Association provided a grant to UCSF to undertake background legal research for the project.

The University of California, San Francisco, Academic Senate provided generous support for the acquisition of new servers.
